Kiosk Buying Guide

A kiosk quote is only as good as its specification. These are the six decisions, in the order they change the price.

1. Location and environment

Indoor, semi-outdoor or outdoor decides the cabinet before anything else is discussed. Indoor terminals (the floor K stand) are built for public-space durability; outdoor duty needs the sealed engineering of the IP65 line — galvanised steel, laminated glass, climate management. Never adapt an indoor unit to weather; specify the environment honestly and the right cabinet follows.

2. Format and size

Floor, wall, desktop or table. Screen size follows viewing distance and content: 21.5 inch for one-to-one tasks, 32–43 inch for shared information, 55 inch and above for media presence. The wall range and touch table exist because format is a property of the room, not the catalogue.

3. Touch technology

Infrared suits public terminals (works with gloves and styluses, flat cleanable glass); capacitive (PCAP) suits multi-touch surfaces like tables. Points of touch and surface hardness are the numbers to compare — this range's floor kiosk, for example, specifies infrared 2–32 points behind 7H glass.

4. PC build

Processor, memory, storage and OS are configuration items on manufactured kiosks — the K stand's reference build (i3-class, 4 GB, 500 GB) is a starting point the manufacturer states can be changed to requirement. Specify from your software's real requirements, not from habit.

5. Peripherals

Printers (tickets, receipts), payment readers, cameras, scanners — peripherals drive cabinet layout and certification. On payment projects, the certified reader/acquirer combination is decided first and the cabinet is built around it.

6. Software and branding

The kiosk runs your software; the project plan should name it before the hardware ships. Branding — paint colour, logo, wrap — is a factory-stage decision, cheapest and best done on the production line. Send those six decisions with your enquiry and the quote comes back as a build, not a guess.

Model, configuration, quantity and destination — that is all a real quote needs. A named manager replies.
